Northrop Grumman Hosts U.S. Military at APR-39 Users Meeting

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Oct. 9, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) recently hosted the U.S. military at its fourth annual APR-39 Users Meeting to share operational experiences and discuss technological advances in APR-39 aircraft survivability equipment.

Aviators, maintainers, logisticians and program managers from the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force participated in the two-day meeting, which took place at Northrop Grumman's Rolling Meadows facility. The meeting included discussions of all aspects of APR-39 operations and advances in integrated aircraft survivability equipment. Participants had the opportunity to attend demonstrations of other Northrop Grumman electronic warfare and survivability systems during the event.

The Northrop Grumman APR-39 acts as a radar warning receiver and a controller for an aircraft's electronic warfare survivability suite, capable of integrating with and displaying data from a wide variety of onboard sensors. Incorporating the same modular digital receiver/exciter (DRE) technology that is built into Northrop Grumman's Electronic Attack Pod Upgrade Program (EA PUP) and Eagle Passive/Active Warning and Survivability System (EPAWSS) solutions, APR-39 provides rapid identification and continuous 360-degree threat warning for today's complex battlefield. This cost-effective system features advanced technology in a small, lightweight configuration that protects a wide variety of fixed, rotary-wing and tilt-rotor aircraft from today's most modern threats.

"Events such as the APR-39 Users Meeting give us the opportunity to discuss the evolving threat environment with the warfighters who depend on our systems," said Janine Nyre, vice president of radio frequency countermeasures at Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector. "The digital receiver/exciter technology of today's APR-39 is a direct result of that invaluable and ongoing dialogue with our customers."

More than 7,000 Northrop Grumman APR-39 systems have been installed to date on both domestic and international AH-1W/Z, UH-1N/Y, MV-22B, KC-130T, UH-60, OH-58D, CH-53, CH-46, AH-64A/D and CH-47 aircraft.
