Today many people add antique flooring to their homes. For some it is merely for the aesthetic value added to the home. Others feel that it is a form of recycling that shouldn?t be neglected. It isn?t just wooden floors that people reuse. Many new homes are utilizing the tile or stone flooring from buildings built long ago.

Wood is the Popular Choice

When it comes to antique flooring, wooden floors are always in demand. Not only are certain woods becoming more scarce but the demand is increasing, making this beautiful medium more difficult to find. Antique hardwood floors can cost an arm and a leg but they often far surpass the quality of new wood floors.

Fortunately, antique flooring doesn?t always have to be expensive. There are many places on the internet that will sell boards salvaged from old homes. Sometimes these prices are quite reasonable. Additionally, if you are willing to finish your own boards then you can enjoy the lower prices of salvaged wood that hasn?t been restored.

Another good approach is to keep an eye on the classifieds in your local paper. You might find someone trying to sell their old hardwood planks so they can add a new floor. This is a great way to get a bargain.

When searching for antique flooring it is important to keep the dimensions of your room in mind. Due to the scarcity of most antique flooring you will have to be able to judge whether you can obtain a sufficient amount of material from any one source. If you can?t then you might still be able mix and match different materials in an attractive way.

Antique Tile is Another Great Option

If you aren?t in the market for wood antique flooring then perhaps antique tile will look good in your home. Tiles are durable and last for decades and even centuries. Many great palaces use tiles salvaged from ancient buildings.

Today there are many Victorian tiles available for purchase. Most people won?t be able to find these tiles locally- at least not in large enough quantities. Luckily the internet can put you in touch with wholesalers that have a large quantities of quality tiles.

Perhaps the tile you will most likely encounter is the encaustic tile. This is an extremely durable tile from the Victorian era. Although many people cover their entire floor with them you can also accent your current floor with a handful of these quality tiles.
