A Multiple Sclerosis Caregiver View - Our Personal Nurse

My husband has been diagnosed with remitting and recurring multiple sclerosis (RRMS) and through out the entire process I have been writing about the challenges we have had along the way. One thing that we are most grateful for is our personal nurse who has been provided to us by the manufacturers of his chosen drug, Rebif.

On her first visit to us, we were still in shock at the diagnosis and were not able to administer the drug until we received the proper instructions by our personal nurse. So that visit was a complete learning experience and a frightening step into the unknown. Although we received the guidance and reassurance from her that she is only a phone call away; we had a lot to absorb and frankly most of it was a blur.

The second visit from her was so much more important to us because we are now grounded and after twelve weeks on the drug Rebif(R), having administered it by injection to my husband three times a week; we are not quite so frightened of the unknown. The second visit allowed us to welcome a friend to our home who made us feel comfortable and relaxed and asked the questions that we needed to know and taught us more about this strange illness and why it is so important to continue with his injections of Rebif.

As she explained to us with the information provided to her and to us by the MS nurses who work with patients of multiple sclerosis on a daily basis. The packet of information she left for us was so enlightening and titled; "take on MS (TM)" and sponsored by EMD Serono, Inc. and Pfizer Inc. Take on MS is a program created to give us a better understanding of the disease. This literature is dedicated to knowing what MS is, how it affects the body and the treatments that can help manage it.

As her visit was coming to a close; we wanted to know when she would be returning. We almost feared her first visit because we were still dealing with the shock of the diagnosis. This visit was very enlightening, we are so grateful to the manufacturers of Rebif; EMD Serono and Pfizer for providing this wonderful service, this kind and considerate person and most of all, a dear friend. She is still a phone call away and when she returns to us, we will again welcome her with open arms and a brighter outlook to his future with multiple sclerosis. Thanks again!
